Azan Awais Hits Debut Century; Pakistan Build Strong Total in Dhaka Test
Young opener Azan Awais etched his name into the record books by smashing a resilient century on his Test debut. His landmark performance anchored Pakistan’s response in the series-opening Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Match Highlights: Day 3 Session
- A Historic Debut: The 21-year-old left-hander reached his hundred off 153 balls with a single off Nahid Rana, becoming the 14th (or 15th per some records) Pakistan batter to score a century on Test debut.
- Away Achievement: Awais is only the third Pakistani to achieve this feat in away conditions, joining the ranks of Fawad Alam and Umar Akmal.
- The Innings: His knock of 103 runs from 165 balls featured 14 boundaries, providing much-needed stability after Bangladesh posted a massive first-innings total of 413.
- Bangladesh’s Fightback: Despite the strong start, Bangladesh fought back in the morning session of Day 3. Taskin Ahmed dismissed Awais for his 50th Test wicket, sparking a mini-collapse where Pakistan slipped from 210-1 to 230-5.
- Supporting Cast: Fellow debutant Abdullah Fazal contributed a solid 60 to help build the initial platform alongside Awais.
At lunch on Day 3, Pakistan reached 251-5, with Salman Ali Agha (12*) and Mohammad Rizwan (8*) at the crease, trailing Bangladesh by 162 runs.
